Kristoff triumphs in Scheldeprijs after massive crash in final – NU.nl

Kristoff was the Belgian Edward Theuns and the Byelorussian Yauheni Hoetarovitsj for Schoten,

The 27-year-old Norwegian was Sunday still the best in the Tour of Flanders and picked up last week three stages the overall victory in the Three Days of De Panne. He is the first rider who writes these three courses in one year in his name.

Trek captain Danny van Poppel was the best Dutchman in fifth place, just behind the Frenchman Marc Sarreau.

Marcel Kittel, who Scheldeprijs wrote the last three years to his name, is not fit and could not defend his title.

The Belgian sprinter Tom Van Asbroeck Lotto-Jumbo was one of the victims of the massive crash less than a kilometer from the finish line.

Without former winners Kittel, Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen and sprinter André Greipel started the riders at the two hundred kilometers between Antwerp and shots.

After more than thirty kilometers left seven riders in the peloton: Dutchman Huub Duijn, Belgians Frederick Backaert, Kenneth Vanbilsen and Laurens De Vreese, American Tanner Putt, Italian Matteo Busato and Vincent Jérôme from France.

The escapees had a lead of almost five minutes, but the peloton always kept control. De Vreese and Duijn kept the longest established, but even they had to go with four kilometers capitulate.

Etixx-QuickStep hired Mark Renshaw the lead in preparing for the sprint, but just on the time Katyusha took over, was in the second row a large group of riders down.

Kristoff was not distracted and sprinted to his fifth stage victory in over a week.
