Brazilian superstar Neymar’s Copa América over. The captain of the ‘Seleçao’ has been suspended for three games for his misconduct Wednesday after the lost group match against Colombia (0-1).
Neymar shot the ball first full on the back of Pablo Armero and then shared a headbutt off to scorer Jeison Murillo. The striker from FC Barcelona then also made another argument with Carlos Bacca. Both players received a red card.
Neymar was automatically suspended for one match against Colombia because he received his second yellow card of the tournament. He therefore misses the final group match against Venezuela. The disciplinary committee of the South American Football Conmebol Neymar decided to stay for another three games because of his misconduct after the final whistle. Bacca was suspended for two games for his part in the brawl. Neymar can still appeal against the sentence, Bacca not.
If Brazil continues in the Copa América and any appeal is unsuccessful, the five-time world champion in the quarterfinals and the possible continuation can (semifinal and final) no longer rely on Neymar. The 23-year-old Brazilian has been 44 goals scored for the national team, with which he is fifth on the all-time top scorers list of the ‘Seleçao’
