National coach Reijners fed up of ‘acid’ defeat Orange Women – NU.nl

“we were everywhere too late. This team would terribly happy, but in the performance and the quality of many things should be much better,” said Reijners after the 1-0 defeat.

The ‘Lionesses’ lay thanks to the eminent notch star Sari van Veenendaal still grab a point, but the extra time it was luck. “With one or two minutes on the clock you have to drag that point out. But one moment, when the ball fell in between, proved fatal. Very acid to lose that.”

The coach saw Orange play scared. Netherlands managed to barely hold in the team and were especially backward. “We were still far from the ball down and were therefore each time one or two steps too late. The distances were huge. We talked about it in the rest.”

“We had pre- thought much football to be returned in midfield, but it was the other way, “said the coach. “When we were in the course of the second half a bit better in the race came, the goal was still on the other side.”

Reijners did not comment on the situation around Vivianne Miedema, the star player of Orange which again was invisible. Miedema seems, partly because of physical problems, to suffer from the high expectations. “Everyone is very disappointed by this result, Vivianne too. No one now looks happy with us.”

Orange will have to rise in the last group match against host Canada over themselves to get a place in the quarter finals. Reijners: “It is clear that it must be better.”
