Bert van Marwijk is the new coach of Saudi Arabia. The 63-year-old trainer must help the country on its way to the world championship in Russia in 2018

The former head coach of Orange appointed for one year. According to the Football Association of Saudi Arabia Van Marwijk will arrive Sunday in Jeddah. His one-year contract will start on 1 September.

The new team Van Marwijk is classified in the first World Cup qualifying stage in a group with five countries. The first match against Palestine ended in a victory of 3-2. The group stage will end in March next year. Then begins a new qualifying round group winners and the best runners-up.

Van Marwijk is starting his new adventure with a World Cup qualifying game against East Timor on September 3 in Jeddah. After that wait for him at least six other qualifiers with Saudi Arabia.

Van Marwijk sat since his departure at Hamburger SV in February 2014 without a club. But he was late last season as advisor to his childhood sweetheart Go Ahead Eagles that he did not know to protect them from degradation
