Ajax allowed after a narrow escape at Celtic still hope for wintering in the Europa League. Thanks to a goal from substitute Vaclav Cerny after 88 minutes took the Amsterdammers at Celtic Park a 2-1 victory which kept them in the race for second place
.
Ajax appeared in Scotland on its way to the exit of the second European club tournament. By the victory of Fenerbahçe at Molde (2-0) an early rout seemed inevitable. Until Cerny unexpectedly decided otherwise.
In the last match Ajax is visited Molde. Fenerbahçe takes it in the last match at home against already disarmed Celtic. The backlog of Ajax at the Turks is two points, the next round would seem far off for coach Frank de Boer and his team.
Ajax – it was dying for a European away win – began dramatically with the game in Scotland. After only three minutes, Celtic striker Callum McGregor too much space awarded by Mike van der Hoorn. From a meter or sixteen he placed the ball behind Jasper Cillessen.
The equalizer came after an acrobatic action on behalf of Arek Milik. The Polish striker wriggled just before Celtic- goal in a curious pose to live the final push: 1-1 after 22 minutes. This was a goal from Viktor Fischer been wrongly disallowed for offside.
In the disappointing second half were the best chances for Celtic, but Ajax bite them off. Five minutes before Amin Younes hit the post. Moments later gave Cerny in an Amsterdam counterattack, yet the necessary victory.
