Ajax coach Frank de Boer had his team by the injury of Anwar el Ghazi upset. He passed Arek Milik as a striker and came up with Davy Klaassen to come. His position in midfield was filled by Daley Sinkgraven, which according to De Boer was back on the road. A blessing in disguise was the rapid recovery of Mitchell Dijks, which consequently could start at left back.

Colin Kazim-Richards came face to face with goalkeeper Cillessen, but the Turkish striker shot easily into the hands of the Ajax goalkeeper. The last fifteen minutes of the match were fought duels to the cutting edge, but does not lead to goals.
