The 27-year-old Westlander went three long sets defeat against the 19 year old Croatian Borna Coric:. 7-6 (9), 4-6, 6-3
The Baker began to moderate the game in Ahoy, but rallied in the second half of the first set. A series of forehand errors gave Coric De Bakker in four set points at 5-4. The global number ninety failed to use them, however.
The Dutchman missed at 6-5 and in the subsequent tie-break another six set points, mostly by sloppy play. Coric benefited and took the tie-break and consequently the set 11-9.
Despite many missed opportunities Bakker started well in the second set. With a backhand winner down the line he placed a break at 1-1.
The Dutchman put his 19 year old opponent under pressure at baseline and went to 3-1 again by storing the Croat with a forehand winner. At 5-4 it was finally on his third set point hit and he made it 1-1 in sets

Missed volley
the decision fell in the third set at 4-3 in favor of Coric. In a game with nine times deuce unused Coric his sixth break point thanks to a missed volley from Baker. After about 2.5 hours of play took the world number 38 from Croatia 5-3 in his first match point.
“This is probably my harshest defeat ever,” regretted Baker. “I’ve had plenty of chances, but in the important moments, I played too cautious or too many risks and there are guys like Coric just too good for that. Those penalties that off.” Saw
Despite the loss De Bakker a bright spot. “Especially about my level in the second and third set I am satisfied when I left offensive play. It’s a shame I hit the ball against netband on break point in the third set and he just fell on the wrong side.”
Haase
Coric, debutant at the ABN Amro tournament, playing in the second round against the winner of the game between the Latvian Ernests Gulbis and Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Robin Haase, another Dutch participant in Rotterdam, will play Wednesday in the first round against Gilles Simon of France
