Müllenberg first boxer in 24 years of going to games – NU.nl

The 28-year-old Tukker secured a ticket to Rio, by the Olympic qualifying tournament in the Turkish city of Samsun to reach the final.

Müllenberg was in the semifinals of the class to 81 kilograms too strong for local favorite Mehmet Unal:. 3-0 (30-27, 30-27 and 29-28)

Müllenberg is the first Dutch boxer in 24 years of going to the Olympics. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992 Orange was the last of the party in the boxing tournament, then with up to six participants. Orhan Delibaş excelled in the Spanish city with silver, Arnold Vanderlyde grabbed bronze.

The Almeloër hopes in Rio to follow in their footsteps. First Müllenberg had at the qualifying tournament in Samsun achieve a podium place. It succeeded the leader of Orange gloriously

The two-time winner of European Championship silver first defeated Ainar Karlson of Estonia 3-0, then with the same figures the Norwegian Surkho Shamilov. In Unal met Müllenberg Friday the Turkish champion, loudly encouraged from the hall in Samsun.

The Dutch Light Heavyweight allowed himself therefore not be fooled and Unal managed to hit every time. Immediately after the last round Müllenberg already raised his hands in the air.

Tukker felt at that moment all that he was entitled to the ticket to Rio. The jury pointed him unanimously as the winner, followed Müllenberg cheering a tour around the ring danced
