The UCI take this decision after a critical report by an internal, independent commission, called CIRC. Which concluded Monday that doping does play a lesser role in cycling, but the illegal drugs are still used. They would mostly do by taking small doses, the so-called micro-dosing.

The small amounts of drugs are in fact after a few hours no longer detect a doping test. The nocturnal control pause is therefore still possible to cheat. Due to allow to monitor all day unannounced is no longer possible, as is the reasoning.

In addition to extensive controls the UCI also raises a program for whistleblowers in life, reports Reuters . UCI president Brian Cookson says:

“I am determined to use the report of CIRC for regaining trust of fans, television and the drivers who clean driving . We have set up an internal group that is going to ensure that the recommendations are followed. “
