Wrestler star Jessica Blaszka tonight has won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Las Vegas. In the class to 48 kilograms, which is also on the program during the Games in Rio, she managed to wrestle herself after her lost first round through the resits for a medal.
The 23-year-old Limburg lost her first round match of Maria Stadnik from Azerbaijan, which eventually would win silver. In the rematch Blaszka won two games so they penetrated to the battle for the bronze. There she stood tall behind against China’s Li Hui, but just before she knew the time lag to bend in profit.
With her third place Blaszka also met the qualification requirements for the Olympics. She is seen by NOC * NSF as potential medalist. It was the first time they won a medal at a major tournament for the seniors. Netherlands have never won an international medal in wrestling.
