‘FBI investigates role in bribery scandal Blatter marketing company ISL’ – NU.nl

This informs the BBC Sunday in a preview of a documentary that will be broadcast Monday evening.

It involves bribes from ISL in the nineties paid to FIFA officials, in exchange for lucrative television and marketing rights at major tournaments. That is about 100 million dollars at stake.

Among others, former FIFA president Joao Havelange and former FIFA official Ricardo Texeira allowed themselves to be bribed. Under Havelange was still Blatter General Secretary of world football.

The 79-year-old Swiss states that he knew nothing of the bribes, but the FBI doubts that lecture. In a letter of Havelange would namely be that Blatter fully aware of the fraud.

Texeira

The ISL case was legally closed in 2010, but in 2012 it became clear yet what happened in broad outline when the Swiss justice documents released on the case.

Havelange and his former son-Teixeira got the most money. The duo had accepted millions in bribes, but bought off prosecution by paying heavy fines.

By the way, also the current interim president at FIFA, Issa Hayatou from Cameroon accused. He and Blatter always denied and escaped a suspension by FIFA.

Research

Blatter has already or provisionally suspended by the ethics committee because of a shadowy payment to UEFA boss Michel Platini in 2011. Against the Swiss also runs a criminal investigation by the Swiss justice for fraud and bribery.

The BBC documentary, incidentally, would also appear that Qatar 162 million spent to pray that the country resulted in the 2022 World Cup.
