Former handball international Tienstra (45) deceased – NU.nl

Tienstra, who also made the handball sport furore was by Dutch Handball Association (NHV) as Head of the successful Handball Academy. The NHV said Tuesday the death of Tienstra with great dismay known.

The Dutch women’s team, which Tienstra until recently as goalkeeper trainer was active, Tuesday night in Denmark will be the World Cup match against Sweden with armbands playing.

Tienstra debuted in 1997 in the Dutch women’s team against Slovakia and closed her international career in 2007. She was active in three World Cups and two European Championships. With Orange, they ended up at the World Championships of 2005 in St. Petersburg in fifth, the best result ever for the Dutch team.



Brain tumor

The goalkeeper survived in July 2008 barely a car accident when she had a seizure at the wheel. Doctors found that it was a malignant brain tumor four of the culprit by four centimeters.

In 2009 she was operated on, but the tumor kept coming back. Yet they fought back to train in the service of NHV handball talents
