Schulting despite fall still promising for super finals at short track World Cup – NU.nl

The relay teams ride Sunday the B finals for the honor.

The men were in a race with Italy, China and South Korea deficit, though she rode a couple of times in second place. A bad exchange, about ten laps before the end, the team took the cup. Netherlands came at a hefty distance inside.

The absence of the injured Sjinkie Knegt and Daan Breeuwsma was felt clearly in paying.

In the women’s race Netherlands was marred by a bizarre crash. A group of repayment rijdsters clapped inside track on a boy who must lay the blocks well. Suzanne Schulting could just missed the uproar, the Canadian Valerie Maldais was injured.

After a restart Netherlands went long on the second place, but with a change of Yara Van Kerkhof to Rianne de Vries went wrong. Netherlands sank, after Schulting and Van Kerkhof hole no longer knew how to close.

Schulting

Schulting still has a chance of reaching the final super final at the World Championships in Seoul. For that she needs Sunday at 1000m good ride, after a seventh place in the 500 and eighth place in the 1500 meters.

On the 500 meter Schulting saved it in the semifinals. She just came up short against the favorites Fan Kexin from China and the Canadians Marianne St-Gelais and Kasandra Bradette.

In the B-final Schulting was on his way to a good result, but a mistake in the last corner cost her field. She was third behind Bradette and British Charlotte Gilmartin. Fan eventually grabbed the title.

Earlier on Saturday Schulting finished eighth in the 1500 meters. She knew Seoul failed to reach the A-final because of a fall, but in the B-final she was the best. Schulting has now scored three points in the overall standings. This puts them miles behind series leader St-Gelais (55 points), but the shared ninth place provides perspective for the final day of the World Cup.

The other Dutch, Yara Van Kerkhof, stranded in the quarter finals her favorite distance.

men

in the men’s team held the misery on Friday. Freek Van Der Wart knew on Saturday to pick up any final spots and thus the Orange Triad is off. Only chance for revenge is still the relay.

Dennis Visser and Itzhak Late were Friday already disabled on the 500, 1000 and 1500 meters.

Van der Wart if Saturday still fighting for the final spot on the 500 and 1500 meters, but failed in that mission. On the 1500 meters he was outgunned sixth in the semifinal, the shortest distance he already stranded in the quarterfinals. He was in his third race, behind the Korean Seo Yi Ra and Russian Dmitri Migunov.

It is therefore clear that the Netherlands is only allowed to start two skaters at the World Cup of 2017 in Ahoy Rotterdam. To maintain the three starting points, namely Netherlands should have had a man in the top eight and a second at the top sixteen. That mission was much too high
