A spokesman for the French police confirmed the death of the French newspaper L’Équipe .
The 25-year old driver of the small Belgian team Wanty-Groupe Gobert came during Gent-Wevelgem after about 150 kilometers fall along with four other riders and was then hit by a motorcyclist. He was taken to hospital in Lille.
A spokeswoman for the team said Sunday in a statement which Demoitié was unconscious when he was transported to the hospital and no longer was conscious. His wife and family were with him at the hospital when he died.
The 25-year-old Demoitié was in his first season at Wanty-Groupe Gobert, a team that comes out on the second level in cycling. Last year won the Belgian include a ride in the Circuit des Ardennes.
Discussion
The behavior of motorcyclists is already under discussion for some time. Earlier this year, Stig Broeckx and Danilo Wyss hit during a match.
Last year Tinkoff threatened to withdraw from the Tour of Spain after Peter Sagan, Sergio Paulinho were hit.
