D e German journalist Florian Bauer (ARD) together with a cameraman, a sound engineer and a driver in Doha arrested when he declined interviews with laborers working on the construction of stadiums. The four prepare in the Qatari capital of a documentary for which the title ‘Der verkaufte Fussball’ gets and who wants to expose the irregularities in the allocation of the organization of the 2022 World Cup to the Gulf state.
The foursome was in his own words interrogated for hours by police. Their cameras, laptops and phones were confiscated and only returned after all the data had been erased. The reporters claim that they had laid hands on bank documents showing irregularities appear.
The British newspaper Sunday Times reported last year that Qatar the necessary votes to get awarded the organization of the World Cup 2022 just bought. The selection of Qatar was associated with heavy corruption.
