Chris Tijn Groeneveld, reigning Dutch champion on natural, has a serious injury to his back sustained during a fall while skating . Last night underwent the 29 year old skater surgery on a broken spine.

Groeneveld with his skating Van Yards at training camp in Inzell, Germany. He moved at full speed crashed and could not move his legs after the fall. He was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Traunstein. As it became clear that a vertebra is broken and that it has pinched the spinal cord but not severed.
Groeneveld got a few hours after the operation a little feeling in his legs. He remains at least ten days in the hospital. Upon return to the Netherlands, he will be operated on. Again To what extent he can fully rehabilitate clearly earlier than the coming weeks, but may take much longer.
Coach Roy Boeve saw the fall happen and Groeneveld has spoken in the hospital this morning. “He was clear and told me that the only thing he wants is to learn to walk again. About skating he has fortunately not, does that now as no longer increasing. The doctor already spoke of a miracle that he has regained some feeling for how it looked yesterday does not matter. ”
