Van Gerwen allowed by the victory the proud successor to Phil Taylor. The living darts legend from England won the tournament the last seven years and a total of fifteen times. In 2014 Van Gerwen had to patiently watch ‘The Power’ ran away with the victory (18-9).
Van Gerwen still sees a purpose: “Winning the grand slam title.”
