Ajax have lost the lawsuit it had filed against Shota Arveladze. The club claimed to have millions of credit from the Georgian striker, who in the summer of 1997 came from Trabzonspor.

The conflict, which has already years drags, about Ajax payments to Arveladze which were designated by the IRS as gross salary, while the striker claims the payments were net.

The Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) started in late 2000 a criminal investigation. They suspected that payments are made which are presented as tax-transfer fees, rather than wages. The difference would be now risen to five million euros, an amount that Ajax therefore can not be captured by the former attacker.
