Guardini leader Eneco Tour after winning first stage – The Latest News

UPDATE Italian Andrea Guardini (Astana) today in the Dutch Terneuzen after a sprint the first stage of the 10th edition of the Eneco Tour (World Tour) to his name. He takes also the leader’s jersey. Jens Debusschere fourth.

After 183.1 kilometers was flat Guardini, who last week won two stages in the Tour of Denmark, faster than the Frenchman Yohann Gene (Europcar) . Davide Cimolai (Lampre-Merida), compatriot Guardini, was third. Belgian champion Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Belisol) was the best Belgian fourth place. Sep Vanmarcke (Belkin) finished ninth, Michael Van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise) 10th.

Laurens De Vreese (Wanty Groupe Gobert), Kenneth Vanbilsen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise) and Latvian Gatis Smukulis (Katusha) took care of the flight of the day in the Belgian-Dutch stage race. Smukulis held it up to 20 kilometers from the finish full, De Vreese and Vanbilsen were caught at 18 kilometers from the finish.

With only 10 kilometers to go were the sprinters Matthew Goss (Orica-Green Edge) and Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) heavy fall, leaving two contenders were eliminated. Early in the stage win Also Danny van Poppel (Trek) went against the asphalt in a final that was marred by crashes. Tom Dumoulin tried it with an ultimate escape in the final kilometer, but was caught just in time. Andrea Guardini made the sprint afterwards authoritarian off. Tomorrow the second stage of the program, a drive over 175.8 kilometers between Waalwijk and Heusden.
