UPDATE Femke Heemskerk and Esmee Vermeulen on the fifth day of the European swimming championships in Berlin made it to the semifinals of the 200 meter free. Heemskerk, the winner of the silver in the 100m free, came into the series to a time of 1.59,77. She qualified this sixth.
Vermeulen went with 2.00,74 in 12th round. Wendy van der Zanden fell off. With 2.01,38 she finished 17th. Heemskerk Wednesday was pretty disappointed about her time in the 100m free, but had a different feeling about today. “I was in good shape and was sorry that it did not come out. I was too far yet to grab gold here but I have fought for and won silver. I’m proud of that. I’ve thought about it, but it was not as flavorful as I had to be rushed to the starting block. In lane 4, you have the least time. I hope I’ll have the chance to do it. ”
On the 200 meter free she wants to reach the finals at least. “But I must certainly go a lot faster,” says Heemskerk. This also applies Vermeulen. The 18-year-old swimmer took before the semi-final of the 100m free not. “That was a big disappointment, I was therefore now quite nervous before my race because I knew that Wendy still came after me. In the 100 meters that was pretty much the same with Maud van der Meer, and when she was just faster. Fortunately, I’m now catch up. ”
The semifinal tonight at the program.
