Schippers ran the 60 meters in 7.04. She had a poor start and could not catch the American Barbara Pierre. The winner ran 7.02. Elaine Thompson from Jamaica took bronze in 7.06.

Portland clocked Schippers in the preliminaries even the fifth time and sprinted to the finals in the third time. In the finals, she seemed still after a shaky start to win. Pierre did however full and took the world title

The 23-year-old Hassan came in the 1500 meters of the finish at 4,04.96. She left this behind her Ethiopian Dawit concurrentes Seyaum and Gudaf Tsegay.
Hassan began her race as usual back of the group, but volunteered front when Australian Melissa Duncan hit a hefty gap with the rest. At the head of the group’s Dutch Duncan passed and they went into battle with the Ethiopian trio Seyaum, Tsegay and Axumawit Embaye.
In the final round she forced nearest rival Seyaum to run a wider curve, which Hassan on the final straight about liked and could run to the title.
Hassan was considered one of the favorites for the gold medal in the 1,500 meters.
