Sifan Hassan on Friday won the European title in the 1,500 meters.
The Ethiopian was born in Zurich a time of 4.04,18. The Swedish Abeba Aregawi grabbed the silver, the British Laura Weightman had to settle for the bronze.
Hassan, who earlier this season for two Diamond League matches won and also the fastest woman in the field was , ran in the first 1,000 meter constant in the rear, but at the start of the last lap she moved forward.
Aregawi offered long opposition, even took Hassen, but had the Dutch athlete in the final phase yet let go. Aregawi came nearly a second behind Hassan inside. Weightman had more than two seconds to admit to the winner.
The Netherlands is the second gold medal in Zurich. Earlier Dafne Schippers was the strongest in the 100 meters
