It is very doubtful that Rafael van der Vaart next season is still part of the selection of Hamburger SV. Coach Josef Zinnbauer let the Dutch midfielder against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1-1) ninety minutes sitting on the bench.
Zinnbauer had his own words bother with this decision. “Human is not easy for me to put Rafael on the bench, but as a coach I have to make choices. I wanted the defensive play and Van der Vaart has that as a pro accepted”, said the coach at the press conference.
“Even on the bench and in the dressing room, he has value to the team. Who knows Rafael knows that next week he will work even harder to earn his spot back,” said Zinnbauer. The former Ajax player (32) has an expiring contract extension in Hamburg and has seen his role not guaranteed hit. “About the future, I’m not talking yet.”
Frank de Boer has already announced that Ajax is interested in a reunion. Self midfielder tends to stay longer abroad.
