After her victory in the first round will Kiki Bertens at the US Open are the toughest opponent: top favorite and defending champion Serena Williams. A tough game, but also an honor, as the 23-year-old Bertens announced tonight after her victory at the Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni to news agency ANP.
Bertens incidentally came behind early against the No. 48 of the world. But after the first set 3-6 having lost moisture the South Holland in the second act with 6-4 back in the game. In the third set Bertens soon took a 5-0 lead and managed to hold onto.
The Dutch afterwards was happy that they managed to turn the match against an opponent who is her “no good lies”. In the second round of the US Open she will Serena Williams, the No. 1 in the world, which saw give her opponent in the first round.
It was not, so that Williams until then much trouble had with the Russian Vitalia Diatsjenko. The American was playing after half an hour already with 6-0 and 2-0. For Bertens promises duel with Williams also “very tricky race” to be, so too does the tennis player himself:
“But it’s an honor to play against a number of the world. Especially in New York, where she belongs and where she can win any grand slams in one calendar year. “

With a victory in New York can they win all four tournaments in one year. The last to do that was Steffi Graf in 1988.
