Johan Cruyff was the election of Bartomeu a setback. The club icon of both Ajax and FC Barcelona had a strong preference for Laporta. But that turned out not stand a chance. Bartomeu got more than 54 percent of the vote. 21 percent more than Laporta.
Bartomeu followed in January 2014 Sandro Rosell in Catalonia. The previous voorzitterdie had to step down because of questionable payments in the transition from Neymar to Barcelona
