Michael van Gerwen after catching up to semifinals World Matchplay – Omroep Brabant

  BLACKPOOL – Michael van Gerwen Thursday has reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay tournament. The 26-year-old darter from Gemonde was in Blackpool in a thrilling duel too strong for the Englishman Ian White (16-13).
     

 

The first-place Van Gerwen had a hard time with his 44-year-old opponent from Stoke-on-Trent. He came 6-1 behind, but managed to recover slowly.

In a backlog of 10-8, he won four legs in a row (12-10). White fought their way yet again to a lead (13-12) but then took no more place in the Winter Gardens.
Threw fortunately many duplicates
“It’s great that I’ve won this race,” shouted Van Gerwen which reported an average of 102. “Ian played great, but in the final I threw fortunately many doubles.”
The tournament for the top 32 darters from the PDC has a prize of nearly 650,000 euros.
