Serena Williams (WTA 1) goes to the third round of Roland Garros. She had some difficulty with the German Friedsam (WTA 105). Caroline Wozniacki (WTA 5) Thursday eliminated in the second round of Roland Garros. The Danish went 6-4 and 7-6 (7/4) defeat against the German Julia Görges (WTA 72). Kvitova did succeed to qualify for the quarter finals. Schiavone qualified after a marathon party.

             

Serena Williams (WTA 1) reached the third round of Roland Garros. The US topreekshoofd put the German Anna-Lena Friedsam (WTA 105) aside with 5-7, 6-3 and 6-3.
The younger sister of Venus will play for a spot in the quarter finals against Czech Lucie Hradecka (WTA 61) or the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (WTA 27).
Serena Williams won the title in Paris twice, in 2002 and 2013. Last year was the US after the second round scram. They then lost chance of the Spanish Garbine Muguruza (2-6, 2-6).

The 24-year-old Wozniacki was seeded fifth in Paris. Last year she lost in the first round against Yanina Wickmayer. Her best result on the French clay is a quarterfinal in 2010.

Julia Görges (26) equals a third round its performance in 2011 and 2012. They will play for a spot in the eighth finals against American Irina Falconi (WTA 85). It was 3-6, 6-1 and 6-2 too strong for the Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva (WTA 106).

Petra Kvitova (WTA 4) has qualified Thursday for the third round of Roland Garros.
The Czech, number 4 on the ranking list, went in three sets over the Spanish Silvia Soler-Espinosa (WTA 97). It was 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 6-2.
In the third round (sixteenth finals) Kvitova stands opposite the Croatian Ana Konjuh (WTA 94) or the 30th seeded Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA 30).

The Italian Francesca Schiavone (WTA 92) qualified against Svetlana Kutznetsova (WTA 18) a marathon of 3 hours and 50 minutes. It was 6-7 (11-13-), 7-5 and 10-8. The former winner of 2010 and finalist in 2011 is now coming out against the Romanian Andreea Mitu (WTA 100) or the Czech Karolina Pliskova (WTA 12) for a place in the quarter finals.
