LONDON – Darter Jelle Klaasen in Breda has Friday for the first time in his career, qualified for the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship Darts. By Alan Norris walked Bredanaar long after the fact. But in the deciding ninth set he hit to. He won the set 3-0.
The Englishman made his debut in the PDC World Championship. And Norris started well by taking a 3-1 lead. Klaasen then fought back in the fifth and sixth set to 3-3. “I do not give up,” Klaasen said immediately after his party for the cameras of RTL7. “I feel good and I threw the last legs well. Then it really was, luckily it happened.” In his first semifinal at the PDC World Championship Klaasen plays Saturday against Gary Anderson. The defending champion from Scotland won easily by James Wade.
Stunt against ‘The Power’
Klaasen, aka The Cobra, reached the quarterfinals by winning in the third round of sixteen time champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor. A stunt that was watched by over 700,000 people.
Apart from Jelle Klaasen is Raymond van Barneveld at the World Championships in London still in the race for a place in the last four. Van Barneveld, the conqueror of title favorite Michael van Gerwen in Gemonde plays his quarterfinal Friday.
All dutch final
The opponent of the Hague-born Michael Smith. As well as Van Barneveld quarterfinals Friday survive then is an ‘all dutch final’ on Sunday still possible.
