Dumoulin: “Hope to come back for the world ‘- NUsport.nl

Tom Dumoulin ended Wednesday when his debut at the World Championships time trial for seniors third. Thus he fulfilled his predetermined goal, but the Dutchman was surprised at how good were his legs.

“I was so strong that I surprised myself,” said the 23-year-old Dumoulin, in the Spanish Ponferrada only Bradley Wiggins and outgoing champion Tony Martin had to leave in a first reaction.

The Limburger knew in the last part of his race not know how he stood it. “I wanted to know my last interval, but Johan (coach Johan Lammerts, ed.) Said nothing. I did not know whether it was good or bad.”

It was good because Dumoulin climbed in the last quarter his trial on the fifth interval to third place at the finish. “Maybe I started a bit slow, but that’s my style. The sting was in the tail.”

The rider Giant-Shimano won this year for four trials and finished in chrono races in the Tour of Belgium, the Tour de Suisse and the Tour de France second behind Martin. His appearance in Ponferrada gave him great confidence for the future. “I hope I can ever come back for the world.”
