Copa America: Lionel Messi picks 100th cap – Standard


             At the Copa America in Chile, Argentina has sat with an efficient victory against Jamaica in Group crowned winner. Vina del Mar remained at 1-0. Lionel Messi did not score in his hundredth match. The only goal of the game came in the 11th minute in the name of Gonzalo Higuain.
         

Since its debut on 17 August 2005, Messi 46 goals for his country, exactly twenty more than the total of the entire Jamaican team. The 27-year-old star of Barcelona came shortly before the hour close to a 47th goal, but the Jamaican keeper Dwayne Miller had a miracle save at home. That Argentina did not get further than one goal was not entirely the merit of the keeper of the Swedish second division Syrianska. Higuain and Angel Di Maria both hit the crossbar.

7 points ending tournament favorite Argentina in first place in Group B, Paraguay (5), 1-1 earlier in the day by beating Uruguay. Defending champion Uruguay may by 4 points as one of the best two derdes through to the quarter-finals and takes it on against host Chile, winner in Group A. Argentina comes to the third group A (Ecuador) or group to be C. Paraguay will meet the winner of that Group C, where Brazil, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia after two rounds with all three points behind the name. Jamaica leaves Chile without point and did not once score.
