The US frontrunners Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed had for the first two rounds two strokes less.
Luiten missed last year the cut at the US Open, but revancheert himself for it during his second appearance on the American major.
Born Bleiswijker announced on Thursday already impressed with a solid round including four birdies Friday and remained at the top with three birdies. Lutes had to fill two bogeys on his scorecard.
The South Dutchman now is the first Dutchman ever at all four majors once the cut achieved. Early this year, it remained below the stripe at the Masters at Augusta, which was won by Spieth

Woods
While Lutes again excelled, Tiger Woods struggled with himself. The winner of fourteen majors had after a dramatic opening round of less than 80 beats (ten over par) Friday again a miserable round of 76.
This is the American near the bottom and are Tournament over. For the second time in his long career, Woods misses the cut at the tournament he in 2000, 2002 and 2008, wrote to his name. The German defending champion at the US Open, Martin Kaymer has been disabled.
