Jan Blokhuijsen NK round on Saturday to be a revenge for his false start to the skating season at the NK distances. The reigning European champion allround thinks he now is ready for top matches.
“I’ve had a few difficult months, it was sometimes a torture,” says Blokhuijsen talking to NU.nl . “But I have yet to put the button, I had a good training camp and I think I’m okay now there. The last time goes each day a little better.”
The 25- year-old North Hollander said before the season that he is less sharp in the summer had come than in previous years and that proved to NK distances late October, early November Thialf.
He fell to the fifth kilometers, was eighth in the 1,500 meters and stepped halfway out on the 10 kilometers. This he did not qualify for the first four World Cup weekends.
“I was not ready to start the race season, it was the sum of wrong choices”, looks Blokhuijsen that when NK round will again ride his old material, now back on the NC. “I had four years lived entirely towards the Olympics. That took a lot of focus and a lot of energy.”
The poor results at the season opening made by the Olympic champion in the team pursuit or for a wake -upcall. “It’s immensely frustrating when skating not go as you want. But it also led to realize how much I want to skate.”
Contest Rhythm
Blokhuijsen This weekend it can weather do for a nearly sold out Thialf, quite a contrast to the Holland Cups and training events which, in the last two months some match practice trying to do.
The winner of the Eindhoven Trophy, a round tournament on 500, 1500 , 3000 and 5000 that was held in early December, which was smaller races not too little for themselves.
“No, I was just very happy that these tournaments were there, otherwise I would not be at all competitions driving. My good Eindhoven Trophy also gave an indication that I was on the right track. “
Spectacular
Whether he gained enough match practice via this route to the five-time champion and the great favored by the NC to round Sven Kramer difficult, is the question.
Blokhuijsen expected that the Thialf like the last few years is going to round tournament between him, Kramer and reigning world champion Koen Verweij. “But I think Wouter Olde Heuvel definitely going to do it. He’s back to his old level and look great.”
The four men would then have to compete for three available tickets for the Championship round which will be held in the Russian Chelyabinsk on 10 and January 11, 2015. As defending champion will Blokhuijsen not missing there.
“An all-round tournament is the most beautiful thing there is. I expect a very spectacular NK, hopefully with a leading role for me.”
