Saturday Koen Verweij has written the 500 meters at the NK-round in his name. Sven Kramer drove Thialf to fourth place.
Defending champion Verweij clocked at 500 meters a time of 36.15 and held Lucas van Alphen (36.22) just behind. Jan Blokhuijsen finished in 36.60 in third.
Kramer was the first of the favorites in action and set a time of 36.70 down. Thus ended the five-time champion in fourth place, which he shares with Peter Green. Kramer continued his teammate Wouter Olde Heuvel (36.74) just ahead.
Jorrit Bergsma, who makes his debut this weekend at the National Championships round, drove in 38.25 to the nineteenth place. That time was a personal best for a thick Fries.
Stayer Bob de Jong did not go beyond 39.19 and finished 23th and last in the 500 meters. Ireen Wüst was the sprint distance even 0.02 seconds faster than De Jong.
Kramer can win his sixth-round title this weekend. Thus he walks in on Hilbert van der Duim, who with seven titles first is on the eternal list.
