The 28-year-old leader of TeamLottoNL Jumbo was Wednesday during the draw in Heerenveen both the 500 meters (sixth stage) and 5000 meters (ninth stage) coupled to five years younger rider of Team New Balance.
Defending champion Koen Verweij (Team Corendon) takes in the 500 meters in the twelfth and final drive against teammate Jan Blokhuijsen. At the 5000 meter acts Thom van Beek as opposed Verweij. Rookie Jorrit Bergsma (Olympic 10,000 meters champion) is at this distance in the tenth drive the duel with veteran Bob de Jong.
In the women riding title holder Yvonne Nauta in the 500 meters at Manouk van Tol. Rival Ireen Wüst takes on the Sanneke Neeling. At 3000 meters fights against Nauta Jorien House and Wüst against Linda de Vries in the last ride.
