ISU maintains Championship round in Chelyabinsk – NUsport.nl

The International Skating Union ISU sees no reason to hold the European championship round in Chelyabinsk at a different location.

Especially within the Dutch skating world is spoken aloud about a boycott of the tournament, which is held over a month in Russia.

” It is wise to sports and keep politics apart. I see no evidence to move the European Championships. There are other agencies, “said the vice president of the ISU, Jan Dijkema, Monday against the CSS .

The Dutch skating association KNSB reported earlier ” understanding ” to have coaches and athletes who want to shoot the tournament because of the plane crash with MH17 and the current political role of the host country on the world stage.

NOC * NSF informed the choice to go to Russia as the Dutch Federation to let the athletes themselves.

Corendon coach Jan van Veen started the debate last week by announcing not to travel to Chelyabinsk. His pupil Marrit Leenstra named as Ireen Wüst the crash with the MH17 as the main reason to doubt.

Sven Kramer called the ISU on Monday to reach a solution. “In the end I am a sportsman who tries to skate hard. But if you’d ask me personally I even prefer that this tournament would be held somewhere else, “he said.

The European Championships in Chelyabinsk on 10 and 11 January held next year.
